This fragrant evergreen shrub is called Lavandula intermedia ‘Phenomenal’. Commonly known as Phenomenal Lavender, this plant features narrow, green spiked foliage topped with clusters of tiny purple flowers. Blooming throughout the summer and fall seasons, its sweet fragrance and fast growth habit are great features for those who like freshly cut flowers from their garden. Phenomenal ™ Lavender tolerates both cold spells and occasional drought conditions.
Planting and care instructions
Plant Phenomenal Lavender using well-draining soil in an area that receives full sun exposure. Water regularly to establish a healthy root system, then reduce the frequency being sure never to overwater or leave the soil soggy. This variety is known to tolerate periodic droughts and would be a good planting selection in anticipation of California’s yearly droughts. This is one of few varieties of Lavender that looks well throughout the winter season and tolerates the colder temperatures well. Growing slightly above soil level, you can add topsoil to reduce the uneven soil appearance and prune its spent blooms to keep a clean appearance.
