This deciduous fruiting tree is known as Prunus salicina ‘Santa Rosa’, or more commonly as Santa Rosa Plum. Heavily decorated with delicate white flowers during the spring season, summer welcomes a hearty harvest of deep crimson plums. Its edible plum fruit is sweet in flavor with slightly tart tasting skin that can be enjoyed immediately or cooked into jams or preserves. It is also a desirable meal for local wildlife such as birds. Growing at a moderate rate, this variety reaches an average mature landscape size of 20-30′ tall by 20-30 feet wide.

Care And Planting Instructions

Plant Santa Rosa Plum in an area that receives full sun exposure using well draining soil. Water regularly after planting to help it establish well to its new location then reduce frequency. Be sure to let the top 2 inches of soil to dry out before watering. To improve the quality of fruit, thin out regularly and prune in the winter for desired shape. A general fertilizer can be used during the spring to encourage a robust growing season.
