About Penstemon eatonii (Firecracker Penstemon)
This variety native to the Western United States is known as Penstemon eatonii. Commonly known as Firecracker Penstemon, this perennial is native to areas of California all the way to the Rocky Mountains. Reaching an average mature landscape size of 2.5-3′ tall by 3′ wide, this variety grows at an average rate in an upright form. Its narrow green foliage is found primarily at the base of its green stems and can grow as long as 3″. Its tubular flowers grow in clusters at the top of the stems in shades of red and reach as large as 1″ in length. Its blooming season begins in the spring and last throughout the summer and regularly welcomes local pollinators such as birds, bees and butterflies.
Care And Planting Instructions
Plant Firecracker Penstemon in an area that receives full to partial sun exposure and plant using a well draining soil. Water regularly after planting to help it establish well to its new location, then reduce frequency to occasionally or when the soil has completely dried out. Cold hardy to temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
