About Eriobotrya Deflexa (Bronze loquat)

This compact evergreen tree is known as Eriobotrya Deflexa. Commonly known as Bronze Loquat, this tree features large ovate leaves 8-12″ in length with serrated edges. Its foliage is bronze during the spring season before turning dark green in late summer. In early spring fragrant white flowers emerge in clusters throughout the tree followed by inedible, light orange fruit that invite local wildlife. Reaching an average mature landscape size of 15-25′ tall by 15-25′ wide this tree grows at a moderate rate.

Care and planting instructions

Plant Eriobotrya Deflexa  in an area that receives full sun exposure using well draining soil. Water regularly after planting to encourage its roots to quickly establish, then reduce watering except during periods of extreme heat. Prune regularly during its first few growing seasons to encourage new growth then reduce frequency to annually to maintain a clean shape or cut back its size. If desired, a general fertilizer can be used 2-3 times a year to promote new growth.

Landscape design ideas

This tree looks sharp when used as an ornamental plant or focal point in a residential landscape design. Its size makes it ideal when used as a lower growing privacy screen or as an interesting foreground to property fences.
