About Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’ (Zebrinus Japanese Silver Grass)
This ornamental grass is called Miscanthus sinensis ‘Zebrinus’. Its weeping, grass-like foliage is variegated in nature with stripes of yellow spread roughly across each foliage blade. Its form is clumping and reaches an average mature landscape size of 6-7′ tall x 5-10′ wide and grows at a fast rate. During the summer season pink tassel-like flowers bloom reaching out above its foliage. As the season turns to fall, its blooms fade to silver while its foliage turns to shades of brown.
This variety is also commonly known as Zebrinus Japanese Silver Grass, Zebra Grass and Banded Miscanthus.
Care And Planting Instructions
Plant Zebrinus’ Japanese Silver Grass in an area that receives full sun exposure using well draining soil. Water regularly after planting to help it adapt well to its new location, then reduce frequency. Once established, this variety is known to tolerate drought conditions. Before new growth begins to emerge in the spring, cut back its foliage to the base to encourage robust growth for the upcoming season and to clean up its appearance.
Landscape Design Ideas
