This large fragrant shrub is called Osmanthus fragrans. Notable for its fragrance, each spring clusters of small white flowers bloom offering an inviting fruit fragrance. An evergreen variety,  Osmanthus fragrans or Sweet Osmanthus, boasts dark green leaves with toothed edges that last throughout the year. As an upright, slower grower, this variety reaches an average mature landscape size of 9-10′ tall by 6-8′ wide.

Planting and care instructions

Plant Sweet Osmanthus in an area that receives full to partial sun using well draining soil. Water regularly after planting to help establish its roots then reduce frequency. During periods of extreme heat water more frequently to protect foliage from leaf scorch. Use a general fertilizer in the spring to help encourage new growth and prune back for shape or size before new growth begins in the spring.
