About Sequoia sempervirens ‘Aptos Blue’ (Coast Redwood)

This California native tree is called Sequoia sempervirens ‘Aptos Blue’. Most notable for its size, this variety is one and the same as those found at the Redwood National and State Parks. Reaching an average mature landscape size of 50-70′ tall by 15-40′ wide, this tree grows quickly and can live as long as 2,000 years or more. It boasts rich red-brown, heavily ridged bark that can reach 20-30′ diameter at the base of the trunk.  It has an upright form with horizontal branches topped with flat blue-green needles. As a California Native tree, this variety tolerates Bay Area fog and coastal conditions.

Care And Planting Instructions

Plant Coast Redwood in an area that receives full sun or partial shade using well draining soil. Water regularly after planting to help it establish quickly, then reduce frequency to moderately. This tree thrives well in moist soils so when watering, water deeply.
