About Olea europaea ‘Little Ollie’ (Little Ollie® Dwarf Olive)

This delightfully compact bush offers the beauty of a classic olive tree without the overbearing size. Known as Olea europaea ‘Little Ollie’ or commonly as Little Ollie® Dwarf Olive, this plant can be trained as a topiary, tree or left in its natural shrub form. Growing an average landscape size of 6 feet tall and wide, linear-shaped green leaves with silvery undersides are densely peppered throughout the shrub and have a moderate growth rate. This variety does not fruit, offering the freedom to plant almost anywhere without the hassle of fruit droppings cluttering the surrounding area.

Planting and care instructions

Plant Olea europaea ‘Little Ollie’ in an area that receives full sun using well-draining soil. Water regularly after planting to establish a healthy root system then reduce frequency unless planted in containers. A general fertilizer can be used in the spring before new growth and prune for shape or size if desired. Generally a low maintenance plant, this olive bush can tolerate extreme heat, minimal watering, and harsh seaside conditions, much like its native Mediterranean climate.

Landscape design ideas

Little Ollie® Dwarf Olive is a great choice for street median plantings or along sidewalks. Its tolerance for heat makes it a logical choice for areas that receive little to no shade throughout the day. Plant this variety in containers or spread in multiples throughout your landscape design for a truly Mediterranean feel and look.
